How do I get to the game ?

Access the game here : http://fundox.free.fr/en

Fundox uses the Silverlight plugin (a kind of alternative to Flash). If this plugin is already installed on your computer you will go directly to the game. If the plugin is not installed you will be prompted. Installation is very quick. Once you have installed Silverlight, refresh your browser page and the game will load.

How do I register ?

Once the Fundox site has loaded, you will be required to register a player name by clicking on 'Create a new account'. You need to enter a player name, a password and enter a Captcha code. Click OK to save your account, then click 'Login' to access the game.

What are the restrictions on my player name and password ?

Your player name can contain uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens and must be between 3 and 15 characters long. Your password must contain between 6 and 10 characters (letters and numbers). Spaces in player names are allowed, but not at the beginning or end of a name. Currently there is no method to recover a lost password so make sure it is one you can remember !

Important : When you log in, your password is case sensitive but player name isn't, eg. if your password is TeSt and you enter; test, this will not work.

Note: When choosing a player name, do not use anything which may be considered vulgar or offensive, otherwise it may be removed.

How do I know when the game is being updated ?

Fundox continues to be developed and improved. When a new version of the game is installed a server update is performed as follows :

1) The following automatic message is displayed in the lobby and on all tables :

The game will be interrupted shortly to perform an update.
Table access is suspended until the existing games are over.
The game will be available again in about 30 minutes, thank you for your understanding.

2) Access to all tables is then blocked and the 'join' buttons are disabled. Games already in progress will usually be allowed to finish before the site goes offline.

3) If you try to connect to the game during an update you will see the following message : "Connections are suspended for an update of the game. Please try to connect later."

Is Fundox Moderated ?

There will be support staff in the lobby as often as possible, but they will be there to help and not to hinder. Players are expected to familiarise themselves with the site Code of Conduct and self-moderate by using their common sense and discretion, for example by using the ignore function to avoid a situation escalating.

If you need some help or have a question, send a private message to one of the assistants if they are present in the lobby and they will do their best to help you. If you have an issue which you would like addressed and there is no assistance available in the lobby, please post on the HELP!!! thread on this forum or contact game support on fundox.uk@gmail.com.

Is there a rating system ?

You can play rated or unrated games at Fundox. These options are available to the 'captain', ie. the player who sets the table. If the game is rated, ratings are updated at the end of each game based on the result.

How do I tell if a table is rated or unrated ?

Rated and Unrated games show as different colours in the lobby. Another way to tell is that players at an unrated table will have their rating displayed in brackets. You can play an unrated game against a robot via the options on the table, or you can play a rated game by joining one of the robots at a table.

The principle is the same as in Wordox but the formula is different. It is modeled on the closing "ELO" used in chess :
gain Player A Player B = 16/(1+10^(ratingA-ratingB)/800)

Ratings are calculated to decimal points but rounded to whole units. A potential rating gain or loss is displayed at the bottom of a table before you join.

What happens if I'm disconnected ?

You can rejoin it at any time until the end of the game, even if your opponent has clicked on "Continue". Your opponent is not allowed to continue the game for 30 seconds after your disconnection (timer shown in the window). In 2-player games, you can either continue or cancel the game. The "cancel" button is not shown if there are 3 or 4 players. Reconnections won't work if at least one virtual robot takes part in the game.

Why do I keep being booted from the game ?

Without knowing individual computer, software and server specifications, the most likely cause is either a software conflict or lack of RAM. For example Silverlight 3 is not compatible with 64 bit browsers and your computer should have at least 512 Mb RAM.

If you are having trouble staying connected to the main site, it might be worth trying to access the game via the mirror site at: http://fundox.byethost3.com/en/

If you are having trouble accessing the site or staying connected and the above information does not help, please post on the 'HELP!!!' thread to let us know so we can try to help you resolve it.

Can I change the size of the text in the game ?

There are two ways you can do this - go to Options in Fundox - click the tab 'display' and there you will find a slider bar labelled 'zoom' - move this to the right and voila - the whole page, including the font gets bigger !

Also you can go into 'View' on your browser menu bar and click on ZOOM to make the text larger or smaller. You may need to refresh the page before this takes effect.

If you use IE then there is a % you can increase at the bottom right of your window - here you will also find 'zoom.'

However increasing it in this way will make your font size larger in all windows, so you will need to adjust your 'zoom' after leaving Fundox.

How do I move/remove tiles I have already placed on the board ?

If you change your mind about the tiles you have laid and want to move/remove them quickly before they are submitted :

1. Hit escape to remove them all at once
2. Ctrl+Z will do the same
3. Use delete or backspace to clear one at a time or hold down to remove all
4.  You can move an entire word you have placed on the board by using the cursor keys

How do I send a private message ?

There are three ways to send a private message in Fundox :

1. type /w (player name) make sure you leave a space and type at least the first 4 letters of the name
2. Click the name of an opponent in a game, or on a player's name in the lobby list
3. Press your 'down' cursor key to bring up the name of the last person you sent a PM to, or press your 'up' cursor key to choose from those who have recently sent you a PM.

Are there other commands ?

For a full list of commands type /? In the lobby and then return. Apart from how to send private messages, you will find commands including how to ignore other players, alter game volume, change your personal colour scheme and see the current version of the game.

Where can I find player Statistics ?

Click 'player statistics' above the lobby and a list will open in a new window which shows all players who have logged in to either the English or the French room during the last 30 days. Click the column headings to change the order of player names, ratings, games played, games won, games lost and win percentages.

Which word list does Fundox use ?

The game uses a modified list (13 letters max) of the TWL06 lexicon, which can be seen at the link below :

http://www.isc.ro/en/commands/lists.html

How many tiles are there ?

There are 400 tiles to play. If these run out during a game, a winner will be declared automatically.

Why don't I hear the game sounds ?

The most likely reason is that you're using a web browser in "Privacy mode". This prevents the game from downloading the sounds onto your computer, as it's not allowed access to internal storage space. To resolve this, do not enable Privacy mode in your browser when on Fundox.
